Southwark Wellbeing Hub

The Wellbeing Hub provides information and support to anyone in Southwark who would like to improve their mental health and wellbeing. It is run by the charity Together. The Hub’s services are free and open to anyone who lives in Southwark or is registered with a Southwark GP. Support includes 1:1 support, peer support and Wellbeing Workshops.

Southwark SUN Project

Southwark Service User Network (SUN) is a community-based support group for adults experiencing difficulties with complex emotional needs. SUN aims to empower people to problem solve their current struggles – emotional, relational, social, and practical.

Each group runs for two-and-a-half hours with breaks. You can attend Southwark SUN groups as often or as little as you wish. SUN groups offer peer support. Members both offer and receive support at different times.

Wellbeing education: better understanding your mood and mental health

The South London & Maudsley’s (SLaM) Recovery College

The Recovery College is open to any person who would like well-being education. SLaM offers a wider range of free courses which change monthly. At present, all courses are online. Examples include: ‘The Emotional First Aid Box’, ‘Understanding Depression’, ‘Impact of Isolation on Mental Health’, ‘Motivation’ and The Comedy School Improvisation course’. Online courses (via zoom) are open to anyone interested and free to attend.

Child Loss

Talking Therapies Southwark

Talking Therapies is a free, NHS approved psychological wellbeingtherapy. Anyone aged 18 and above can self-refer. Once your referral has been accepted, you will be offered a telephone consultation with a therapist within two weeks. 

Talking Therapies Southwark offers a variety of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy guided self-help sessions (between 1 and 6 weekly sessions), online groups and workshops. There are also some online videos to access at any time. Most support is provided by telephone or video. Translators available. Surrounding boroughs will have their own Talking Therapies service.

The Nest

The NEST is a free mental wellbeing service for those aged 11-25 living in Southwark. NEST provides support if you are feeling worried, stressed, anxious or just want a chat. The NEST believes not problem is ‘too big or too small’. You can access the NEST as and when you need it, even if you are waiting for support from specialist services. The NEST has a mix of drop-in and booked appointments. They may offer 1:1 support, group support and group social activities

The Listening Place

The Listening Place provides free face-to-face support (not counselling or therapy) for those feeling like life is ‘not worth living’. The Listening Place is an appointment-based support that can last on a weekly basis for several sessions. They believe in a non-judgemental, confidential approach.

Befriending

South East London Mind

If you are aged 18+, and feeling isolated, lonely, and in need of someone to chat with, South East London Mind provide a friendly, safe and confidential telephone befriending service. This includes a regular weekly 30-minute chat with the same volunteer for up to 3 months.

Please note: They are unable to support people with BD, BPD, complex PTSD, psychosis or addictions.

Employment Support

Southside Rehabilitation Association (SRA)

SRA is a charity providing employment training / intermediate employment for people with mental health problems. They do this by running a variety of social enterprises. All the profits are reinvested in their trainees, enabling them to return to open employment.

You can refer yourself or get someone such as your GP, Care Coordinator or Housing Worker to refer you. You can visit and look around, meet with the staff and see for yourself what they have to offer. Their two sites, Camberwell and West Norwood are very accessible by public transport.

Movement and Exercise: we know that moving more improves our mental wellbeing

Southwark’s Swim and Gym (free)

Southwark Council offers free access to Everyone Active’s centres. Southwark residents can access swim and gym facilities on certain days of the week. Disabled Southwark residents can access the leisure centre free 7 days a week and adults aged 60 years can take part in any Silver sessions free throughout the week.

Register online, access a computer at your local library to register or contact the centre directly for an application form. You will need to show proof of home address.

Sporting Recovery

Sporting Recovery is for those experiencing distress or living with mental health challenges. It is a chance to enjoy some physical activity and meet others while improving your physical and mental health. Whether it is boxing, Tai Chi, gym club, football, basketball, racket sports, Pilates or something else, there is something for everyone at Sporting Recovery. There is also a wellness café to relax and have some refreshments.

Women's Peer Support is a safe space where women will support each other towards better wellbeing, using their own mental distress experience.

They aim to cultivate a community where every woman feels heard, seen and valued.

The Nook (for young adults)

The Nook is a friendly group for people aged 18-30 who are experiencing low to moderate mental health needs (with or without a diagnosis). It’s run by people that have been there too, so they will understand.
